School Matters

A discussion of education in East Tennessee

Has anyone heard or have any idea what the time frame is for the traffic line at Farragut Schools due to heavy construction?

Also looking at the map mailed to my house or looking at the one at the schools website of how traffic flows at Farragut Primary, is much confusing.

What time will school actually start or a child be consider tardy?

So basically what I am seeing is that there is only one way out from the parking lot? Which will then become a cluster mess when merging with drop offs in the same line?

Did anyone take into consideration that traffic will come to a halt if parking is unavailable for parents to park?

Also there is only about enough room for 2 car lenghts in front of the corner house on Old Colony at Grammar Lane (back gate). Then you have a driveway. Then next house down is the old man whom about had a heart attack last year due parents blocked his driveway as well and kept him from being able to get out. This happened 3 times a day.

Waste Connections pick up time is on Tuesday starting at 7:00am, do you think they will accommodate traffic lines and think I use Waste Management on Thursdays!

TDOT has said the construction will take about 18 months.

well....this is not a school decision. This traffic pattern has been worked on by TDOT, Town of Faarragut etc. The school just has to abide by it. Basically no one can make a left hand turn into or out of the school. If you need to go left, you need to drop off at Grammar lane.

School starts at the same time as always. Traffic will not come to a halt because parents really don't need to park every day. For years parents have taken the staff parking so that some staff members have no place to park. Would you like to walk your child into a building that has no one to look after your students?

There is a sign posted on Campbell Station, if you have comments, call........ Please check it out and call. But don't call the school, they will just refer you to the number.

Yes 18 months is what they told us today. It was the first house on the corner where the man had a stroke last year due to parents blocking his driveway. Today the city of Farragut put a chain length fence up for him. I agree with you totally, parents don't need to walk their children in everyday, but they do, due to the overwhelming Parent volunteers that they have. I live less then a mile from the school, but would love to use the bus system if at all possible. Hopefully they will provide some extra busses to help limit the amount of traffic for that school this year.

I did see the signs, but also wonder if the TDOT was in communication with the school district on this, so the school district has no say so?
Gosh what a mess this is going to be, but hopefully we do get some police out to help monitor and direct traffic.

You should call Waste Management and explain the problems that you are anticipating to see if they can adjust their schedule for your community.

I did Cathy, and they said they had not heard from anyone. I would hate to see children get hurt. Last year their was a huge problem with parents just dropping off kids in the street. It was bad, you think parents would know better, but many just don't think. I saw first hand last year when they tried to close the gate due to this. Now to have to dodge a trash truck as well as well as on coming traffic. I pray we get some police to help us this year oversee this and not wait until it too late and kids are injured or worse.

I don't know anyone at Waste Management, so I asked Waste Connections about the problem. They suggested that you might be having problems getting a response from WM because WM is managed from Nashville. Their advice is that at the first sign of a problem, you call the police. The police WILL contact WM and ask them to reverse their route so that they are picking up during school hours instead of during morning rush.

Isn't the Intermediate, Junior, and high school all located together? Are they closing the Campball station entrance? I wonder if you will still be able to turn off of Sonya Dr. and drop kids? How many entrances will those parents have to get in and out?

the campbell sta entrance is already shut down and officially the west end drive entrance is the one & only entrance.

Well to my surprise Farragut schools and the town of Farragut have done an excellent job with traffic flow and providing excellent saftey for our children! We have several police in Uniform directing traffic and giving out tickets! Security at all entrances. In reality this is Heaven! Nothing like the mess we had last year and we have major construction going on! I will say that being able to use the buss system has made the most difference. Everyone seems to be using them this year! Good JOB KCS!

I have been shocked. I am up and down Campbell Station Road several times a day and it had not been as awful as I had anticpated.

TDOT did a great job routing traffic around the city. I used to take that route almost daily until April.

We are experiencing good traffic flow at this time. Please remember that Kindergarten has not started full time yet. Next week we add at least another 100 cars to the mix and things might change a bit during the school hours. You will see heavy volumes around drop and pickup times.

Kudos to our school security and principals, bus contractors, Town of Farrgut engineering and staff, JJ Jones and the Sheriff's officers and TDOT for working together on a traffic plan. A big thanks to parents for using buses and leaving earlier than normal when driving to school.

Reminder - KCS officers are present in school zones and they will stop you for speeding!
