What a great way to be involved! Congrats to that neighborhood and others who are reaching out. I have passed this info on to our neighborhood leaders and hope that we are able to participate in such a great way as well.

Anthony, I have not forgotten about you. I will make a last call tomorrow night for uniforms at my son's meeting. I have collected a few, but most of our folks donated their old uniforms to Katrina Scouts last year. I'll contact you on how I can drop off what I have to you. Wish it could be more!

I was involved in Girl Scouts from a Brownie to a Senior. Scouting was such a positive part of my life growing up and I have great memories of Camp Tanasi, learning how to swim at Carl Cowan, camp songs and mess kits. Thank you continuing such a worthwhile program.

The first of the 7 home football games for UT is on Sept 8 and we still need VOLunteers to help us staff our 2 concession booths. Any service group that needs/wants service hours can contact me to sign up but all workers have to be at least 14 years of age. That is the minimum age that Sodexho will let us approve.

Traditional Scouting is made up of 3 programs - Cub Scouting is for boys in grades 1-5 (must be at least 5 years of age), Boy Scouting is for boys in grades 6-12 (up to age 18), and Venture Scouting is for boys and girls ages 14-20 (must be at least in the 9th grade - or - 15 years old and in the 8th grade).

Non-Traditional Scouting is made up of 2 programs - Career Exploring is coed, for ages 14-20 and usually based around a particular career field. Learning for Life is a coed K-12 Character Development program used by many schools and other organizations.

Scouting in the USA will celebrate its 100 Year Anniversary in 2010. We are alive and well because of the commitment of the volunteers that donate their Time, Talent, and Treasure to youth. If you want to make a true and lasting difference in the world, you don't need a passport and you don't have to cross time zones - but you do have to be willing to leave your comfort zone!I invite you to join the adventure of Scouting in the Chehote District with your:

Time: I know you're busy.We all are busy. But we all have a few hours of month that we can spare. Maybe you could serve as a Den Leader, or a Cubmaster, or a TaskForce Member. Whether long term or short term one thing is sure: volunteering will do you a world of good!

Talent: Everyone has literally hundreds of gifts and talents and abilities that they can share with others. Maybe you could be a Merit Badge Counselor. Maybe you are really good at cooking. Maybe you love talking on the phone and/or building a team to get a project done. Whatever YOUR talent might be, there is a place for you in Scouting.

Treasure: Every gift matters. No gift is too small to make a difference. Maybe you could give monthly. Maybe you would be more comfortable with a one-time gift. Maybe you have supplies or equipment or other items that you can donate. Whatever seed that you sow will grow into a tremendous harvest!

Higher Graduation Rates

Acording to a 2005 Harris Survey - young men that are in Scouting 5+ years have a HIGHER graduation rate from High School, a HIGHER graduation rate from College AND they have HIGHER grades in both Science and Math. Hmmm, maybe we need to PUSH Scouting as an "economic development plan".

Big mistakes have long lasting consequences

I believe that it was and is a huge mistake for Knox County Schools to unblock access to web sites that present homosexual or lesbian, or bisexual or trandgender behavior/lifestyles in any way that could be construed as positive, or simply as "alternative".

There is an old saying: 'You don't get good sense until you are 30'. Recent medical evidence has proven that the part of the brain that deals with making decisions based on potential future consequences is NOT fully developed until a person… Continue

Chehote CHAMPIONS District Advancement and Recognition Chairman

So many people are crying: "recession, recession" and "retreat, retreat" and "the sky is falling, the sky is falling". Granted, things definitely could be better - but I say that now is the time to ADVANCE. And the best way for an individual to advance, is by helping someone else do the same.

Responsibilities of Chehote CHAMPIONS District Advancement and Recognition Chair

• Report to District Program Chair
• Stimulate advancement and recognition of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explore… Continue

It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

No District can successfully serve youth, unless it can successfully raise and manage money. As the saying from the movie "THE RIGHT STUFF" goes: "if there are no bucks, there are no Buck Rogers". Sir Winston Churchill said: “It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.” The Finance Chair helps us do what is required (what we have to do) - so that we can do what we want to do - provide quality Scouting programs to youth.

Spring Popcorn Madness

Spring has "sprung" and so has The 2008 Chehote CHAMPIONS District "Spring Popcorn Madness" Sales Program. We know you will be elbow deep in chores AND cheering on your favorite college team and no matter what the activity, you will need some POPCORN to provide that good tasting energy boost you need to finish up strong.

Give yourself a treat and help out some deserving inner-city Knoxville Scouts by "driving the lane" on over to www. orderpopcorn. com and scoring some delicious Trail’s End pop… Continue

The Chehote CHAMPIONS District is pleased to announce our 2008 TaskFORCE Ambassadors (as of 2-14-2008). TaskFORCE Ambassadors are members of the local community, and beyond, that believe in the mission and values of Scouting, especially as they apply to serving the at-risk youth that live in and/or attend school in the Knoxville, Tn inner-city.

According to Chief Scout Executive, Robert Mazzuca, "we need to reintroduce America to Scouting". Nowhere is that more true than in the urban areas of K… Continue

Every kid deserves a chance

Hello all - I work in Scouting in the inner-city Knoxville area called the Empowerment Zone. This area has THE highest rate of poverty in the entire city/county area. 92-95 percent of the kids in the schools that I serve are on free or reduced lunch.

We have just started our 2008 fundraising campaigns. The money goes to help pay for uniforms, books, badges, outings, etc for these kids. NO kid is every turned away but EVERY kid has to show by their attitude and attendance that they ar
