Hi Tamara! I have your complimentary tickets to Reach Them to Teach Them-It's Worth It! I just wanted you to know that instead of trying to send them through the mail at this late date, I will have them available for pick-up the night of the event at the Will-Call Table at the Tennessee Theatre. I'm looking forward to meeting you then!

Hi Tamara,
I will continue to support our community and keep our network together. I do believe this site could do some good to keep everyone informed. See you around soon.
FYI
The Rugby team is having a Homecoming fundraiser this Friday at the ball game. We will be on the grass in the front of the school. Come out and have dinner with us. We will have hotdogs and hambergurgers with lots of homemade goodies. Hope to see you there.

Thanks,
Laura

Thanks Tamara, I will do my best to keep the community involved and informed. What's wrong with my picture? I think I look good in grey! :)

Tamara,
Thank you for your interest in all of our children. Can you tell me who I would call to find out when PMS PTA meets. My wife signed us up and I didn't get any of the info that I needed. Thank you again. Matt Jones

Tamara - It is good to hear from you. After being burnt by administration at Norwood and Downtown I don't do much anymore.

Great, I look forward to hearing from Tonya, I will be at the NORTHWEST P.T.S.O. Meeting This Tuesday, 6:30pm August 21, 2007. If you know any other parents that might have a stake in the future of what happens at Northwest, feel free to send them our way.

Thanks,

TQ

Dear Tamara,
Thank you for the info and I will be calling the community club this week to see what I can do. I am also open to any questions you may have about my county commission campaign. I am just a regular guy who is tired of the greed and corruption that has taken over Knox County government. I will be hosting some meet and greet get togethers just to open myself up to the community and allow people to find out what kind of person is running. Please feel free to contact me here, my email uvbinjonesd@comcast.net, or my cell @ 254-3581.

About Me:
My husband Dennis and I, both Powell High grads, built our home eight years ago on Powell-area property that's been in his family for four generations. Our children, Carmen (11th grade) and Joe (6th grade) are the third generation to attend Powell schools!

My interest in education issues, and legislative issues in particular, led me to serve on the boards of all three of our Powell PTAs, as well as the Knox County Council PTA, and I'm a past Education Chair for the Knoxville-Knox County League of Women Voters. I write a weekly column entitled School Stuff for the Knoxville-Knox County Focus (formerly the Fountain City Focus) community newspaper and serve as a moderater for the School Matters blog on Wednesdays.

Who we are, by neighborhoods

An extended family member "zipped" me this link that enables us to look at U.S. Census data pertaining to our specific neighborhoods, by zip code. It offers some interesting insights as to our varying levels of educational attainment, household income, and so forth. You may want to take a look at www.zipskinny.com.

Shared facilities, changed curriculum create smaller high schools

We're all familiar with the Columbine-type horror stories about the alienation and angst suffered by teens warehoused in huge high schools? I've been meaning to share some material I stumbled across on ways other locales have worked to create smaller high schools--without spending a bundle.

Among the devices available to administrators already saddled with large physical plants, I learned, a

Increased Competition among UT-Knoxville's Applicants

Today's editorial in our Knoxville News-Sentinel touts continuing increases in the ACT scores and grade point averages of UT-Knoxville's freshman class. Frosh arriving on campus just this week boast an average ACT score of 26 and an average core GPA of 3.65. A third of this class actually earned straight A averages in high school. That's great news, of course.

A quick glance at our 2006 State Report Card data, though, reveals the gap between the average

School fundraising--A necessary evil?

On the NCLB thread, my new friend Debi cites her frustration with frequent school fundraising. Surely we've all shared her sentiment!

Debi mentions her school PTA's focus on fundraising, in particular. What work is appropriate to school PTAs? To PTOs?

The incidence of school foundations is also on the rise, although not every school engages in such efforts. What are the positive and the negative consequences of school-based foundations, to individual schools and to the school sy

Quick, quick--Dual Enrollment deadline approaching!

Parents of high school juniors and seniors may appreciate a reminder that the deadline for applying to the state lottery for a "dual enrollment" grant is fast approaching.

Applications for a fall semester grant of up to $300 (which pays college tuition for about one class) are due to the lottery's office by September 1. The spring 2008 semester deadline is February 1 and the summer semester deadline is May 1.

If you're not familiar with the program, "dual enrollment" is a compon
