In today's (09/02/07) News Sentinel, in the Perspectives section, an article entitled, Starting Time, written by George Ashe, a Knox County educator and Assistant Principal at Hardin Valley High School (soon to be Hardin Valley Academy) responds to the debate of starting the school calendar later in the year.

In today's (08/28/07) Knoxville News Sentinel, there is an article on the front page that states Tennessee is 5th in the country for obesity. In the Sentinel's Sunday, August 12th paper, there was an article describing a study that had come out in the latest issue of the journal Obesity finding that obese students missed more days of school than their peers. As Legislative Rep for West Hills Elem, I have been sent emails about the Save Our Summers campaign. There are many parents who are trying to push the start date of school back to late August or early September. There have been recent articles about this issue. On 08/27/07 in the Knoxville News Sentinel's Shopper section an article was written highlighting parents in our community concerned about the start date.
