I am a Realtor, and still have property in Northwest zone. I still have a vested interest in seeing success. Property values can take a hit or at least lag behind in appreciation due to school issues (or the perception of negative issues.
Is Northwest still having problem with retention of Teachers? Of Principals? The lack of lasting leadership should not be ignored.

Our options were 1)move, 2)private school, 3) educational guardianship according to Cindy Buttry and Dr. Lindsay. Jimmy Thacker later admitted we could transfer but recommended against. Last year we were DENIED transfer. Either no one knows the laws relating to assaults in failing schools or cares.

I too attended Northwest and have had and still have stake in future of Northwest. You have a good Principal there in Calvin McCullom, but the political and central office support is severly lacking.

I went to Clinton High where every person from the middle school fed into the same high school; there was a wonderful bond among the students.Secondly, I have a daughter who is disabled and I've NEVER heard anything positive about the way a child who is disabled has been treated from classmates at Northwest. I have lots of friends in the disabilities community and every parent whose disabled child has attended tell me anything but "not Northwest."Again, I'm really not trying to be negative, just search for answers. My husband and I are very concerned with staying in this neighborhood any longer. I would love to find reasons to stay!Thanks,

I was Treasurer then and a number of years also. I was president 2 seperate years at Norwood, VP one year, Co-Pres @Northwest one year and President another. I moved to Powell last year after my daughter was assaulted at Northwest and problems at Norwood. I could go on and on but that coul be at another time,

Hey, I didn't get a chance last night to phone that other parent I was thinking of at Northwest Middle. She is Tonya Waddell, past PTO Co-Pres at Norwood Middle, along with Bedford Chapman.

I have an Open House tonight at Powell High, but I'll try to phone her when I get home. I'll just give her your name and direct her to the blog.

BTW, I also have a sixth grader--a son at Powell Middle.

I'm the proud parent of two wonderful kids. My daughter is in the 6th grade and is currently enrolled at Northwest Middle School. My Son is in the 7th grade and is also enrolled at Northwest Middle School. I've Lived in Knoxville for the past 15 years and I've seen good things and bad things come down the line for our education system, I hope that together, we as a community can ensure that more good things come down the line for our children.

Also, can someone with the PTSO get in touch with me, I met some of you at the open house the other night, about your old website and wanted to discuss updating it and cross linking or perhaps doing feeds from here to there?
