Debi rebuttal of recent vaccines discussion

it was said in a recent discussion :If you didn't believe 100% that vaccinations caused autism, what you are doing would be morally reprehensible because you stand to make a lot of money yourself, don't you?The statement about my standing to make a lot of money from my family's claim in federal vaccine court is erroneous, offensive, and just ignorant. For those who do not know, every single vaccine that is under federal vaccine court's guise has a fee that each and every one of us pay wit… Continue

Barbara Nicodemus Pre-K Discussion

I would like to respond to the recent article published by the News Sentinel via the Associated Press titled TN, pre-k not effective after 2nd grade. I think the press is jumping the gun on such a blanket statement especially when this report is incomplete. The Comptroller’s press release on his website states, An upcoming report, expected to be released later this year, will contain analysis for two additional school years, 2007-08 and 2008-09. It will also further evaluate results of a program… Continue

Cindy Fallsen Football Championships in Indiana

This weekend, our high school team has the opportunity to play at Lucas Oil in Indy. They are pumped! You would think they all won Superbowl tickets when they found out they were going to play there. Do Tennessee teams play on pro fields during the playoffs? I am browsing around and checking out what other states do. Continue

Mike Knapp Great investigative report on Arizona's private schools tax credits

Must read about education policy and funding. The series won the August Sidney Award given monthly to an outstanding piece of socially-conscious journalism by the Sidney Hillman Foundation. Among the findings: "To date, the program has cost Arizona's main bank account $350 million, as the state grapples with the most serious financial crisis in its history, and those who depend on the general fund - public school children, the disabled, the poor and the sick - face severe cuts in services." Jack Lail Extended school days and hours

The Obama Administration is backing extended hours and days for school students.
As part of its coverage of that issue, the AP has done a world map that shows how many days students spend in school in different countries.
Pretty interesting. What do you think? Continue

Anthony Ingram Higher Graduation Rates

Anthony Ingram Big mistakes have long lasting consequences

I believe that it was and is a huge mistake for Knox County Schools to unblock access to web sites that present homosexual or lesbian, or bisexual or trandgender behavior/lifestyles in any way that could be construed as positive, or simply as "alternative". There is an old saying: 'You don't get good sense until you are 30'. Recent medical evidence has proven that the part of the brain that deals with making decisions based on potential future consequences is NOT fully developed until a person… Continue

So many people are crying: "recession, recession" and "retreat, retreat" and "the sky is falling, the sky is falling". Anthony Ingram It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.

No District can successfully serve youth, unless it can successfully raise and manage money. As the saying from the movie "THE RIGHT STUFF" goes: "if there are no bucks, there are no Buck Rogers". Sir Winston Churchill said: “It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's required.” The Finance Chair helps us do what is required (what we have to do) - so that we can do what we want to do - provide quality Scouting programs to youth. Responsibilities of Chehote CHAMPIONS Dis… Continue

GlendaLockyer Essay Examples on Film and Literature

Writing an essay on film and literature is a good thing to do for three reasons. First, most reading materials have been adapted to the big screen. Second, cinema is the most popular form of art during the last century. Third, film and literature are both related and connected to each other.

College students who will write an essay on this interesting topic will lost count of the numb… Continue

LucilleCarson Selecting a good location for essay writing

Robert A Owen Save the Arts in Our Schools

This is one of the most troubling things I've run across in a long time.
TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Because of the recession, cutbacks in public schools across the country have compromised a lot of what many students have taken for granted, like after-school activities and programs. Fortunately, in Claiborne, Bell, and Lee Counties, schools have not made many critical cutbacks in planning their next budgets; that is, until now. At the last Claiborne County Board of Education meeting, the

Geoffrey Steadman Average of 27 students per class

It is important that we as a public recognize the difference between a teacher-student ratio and class size. Although the ideal ratio for Knox County is 1 teacher for every 20 students, the county's ideal class size is closer to 27 students. According to the Knox County Schools 2009-2010 proposed staffing ratio analysis published as a .pdf document on wbir.com, Knox County is using an ideal ratio of 1 teacher for every 20 students to determine the recent round of teacher and staff cuts. Schools… Continue
